GOBA Film Matinee
June 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Holland Theatre is excited to open its doors for this special film matinee as the city of Bellefontaine welcomes GOBA (The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure). Starting at 2PM we will be screening two bicycle-themed films in honor of our guests. Concessions and our cash-only bar will be open during the screenings.
Vive La Tour (1962 – 18 minutes) – A documentary by French filmmaker Louis Malle. It chronicles the 1962 Tour de France and focuses on issues such as providing food for the racers, dealing with injuries and doping. The New York Times describes the film as containing “ebullience, whimsy, jet black humor, awe and unspeakable tragedy” and as “a worshipful documentary of a sport made by a man who knew it intimately and loved it.”
Breaking Away (1979 – 101 minutes) – An American coming of age comedy-drama produced and directed by Peter Yates. It follows a group of four male teenagers in Bloomington, Indiana who have recently graduated from high school. The film was shot in and around Bloomington and on the university’s campus. It received the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay and received nominations in many other categories including Best Picture. It is on the top ten list of America’s most Inspiring Films, compiled by the American Film Institute (AFI).
